Clichy: We could be invincible
by Ben Blackmore, 30 September 2007
Gael Clichy has declared Arsenal’s young guns are beginning to develop the same squad spirit that existed in the invincible season of 2004.
Clichy was speaking after Arsenal’s latest league triumph over West Ham, a ground they suffered a harrowing experience at last season.
The French full back, who has enjoyed a stunning season to date, urged caution over grand predictions – but he admitted something special is developing at Emirates Stadium.
"After the start we've made you can get this feeling. The atmosphere is great and we have the quality to do really well,” Clichy revealed.
"I don't know if we're going to be unbeatable but I'm sure we're going to be up there at the end of the season. If not to be unbeatable at least we want to go as close as possible to first place.
"Nobody gave us any chance at the start of the summer but now everyone has now changed their opinion about Arsenal, which is fair enough. For the last couple of years it has been difficult for us, we did not win anything.
"Now we have what was missing in the last two years, the spirit and the desire to fight for each other.
"That doesn't mean we're going to have a great season but it gives us some hope and if we carry on like this everything is possible for the club."
