Celtic’s Aiden McGeady could be winging his way to Spain after admitting a desire to play in La Liga.

Speaking ahead of Barcelona’s visit in the Champions League, the 21-year-old, who has been in fine form this season, revealed his ambitions lie beyond The SPL.

“I think later in my career I would like to play in Spain,” he told the Herald. “I am very happy at Celtic just now. Every player has aspirations to play in the best league.

“The top four in the English Premier League are top quality but La Liga is so competitive, anybody can beat anyone else. You sometimes see the bottom teams beating the top ones, which doesn’t happen in most Leagues.

“You have the top teams such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, Sevilla, Valencia and Villarreal but outside of that there are plenty of good teams as well.”

roeboy - 19 February 2008 18:45: just to clear something up... aidenho did not turn his back on his country... his country... in their infinate wisdom... turned their backs on him. A mistake that the whole of Scotland will have to stomach as McGeady continues to flourish over the next 5-10 years. As a schoolboy he was continually overlooked by the Scotland selectors committee and after years of frustration decided to go and play for an association he felt wanted him... In reality any blame that is being dished out should be landing at the feet of the SFA for their gross ineptitude. Time will tell how good he can become, but at only 21 and after some of his performances this season... to suggest he is average smacks of ignorance; Report this to a moderator

Playing through scottish football and as soon as the chance arises go to play for the republic of ireland... what a Model professional he is. Bet he turns his back on celtic aswell. Big Liam - 19 February 2008 13:05: Like most Celtic fans, I wouldn't want to see McGeady leave the club. However, we all know that the big clubs in England, Spain and Italy are run by mega rich owners vying for the position as "best in the world". If any clubs start sniffing around, Celtic should slap a £100 million price tag on the player and wait for the bids to come in. It's time the Scottish clubs started demanding real money for our best players, instead of letting them go for peanuts.; Report this to a moderator

“While all big teams (Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool) were busy protecting their best players, Arsenal was in forefront encouraging injury prone Walcott to participate in that useless freindly. Arsenal has a very thin squad and I remember Walcott said it but Wenger didn't take action to add some players. Arsenal players are not made of steel and Wenger should be prepared for such situation. We need Arsenal supporters on the board of Arsenal who can feel the way we feel when the team is losing and they can force Wenger to buy some experience players. Current board members are only interested in profits yet they (profits) don't go into history of the club”
