Redknapp focussing on cup triumph
by Toby Davis, 24 March 2008
Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has all but conceded defeat in the race for fifth place in The Premier League and automatic qualification for the Uefa Cup.
After losing 2-0 against Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Saturday, Portsmouth now trail fifth-placed Everton by seven points.
And with a FA Cup semi-final against West Brom to come, Redknapp admitted that Pompey’s focus was firmly on the cup and qualifying for Europe through that route.
“I think fifth is very difficult now. You have to fancy Everton,” Redknapp told the Portsmouth News.
"It's not impossible and of course we'll keep going. But our main priority now has to be the FA Cup.
"Winning that would be a terrific achievement. Imagine what that would mean to our supporters."
