Rover Roberts ready for fight

Blackburn striker Jason Roberts’ confidence was sky high after his goal in Rovers’ 3-1 win over Wigan on Saturday, and the forward says his effort was indicative of what he has to offer Mark Hughes’s side.
The former Wigan hitman has been somewhat overshadowed in Rovers’ ranks of late by Roque Santa Cruz and Benni McCarthy, and has had his first-team opportunities limited this campaign.
However, a dip in form from McCarthy has opened the door to Roberts who now says he is prepared to hold onto his starting place, but admitted he was uncertain of his Ewood Park future.
"We've got some really good strikers here so you've got to be on top of your game all the time,” said the 30-year-old in the Lancashire Telegraph.
"But if you look at my record since I've been here, when I have played, and I've played consistently, I have scored goals, and I have caused the opposition problems, so hopefully there is more of that to come.
"I still feel there is a lot more to come from me at this football club.
"Hopefully a few more opportunities will come my way between now and the end of the season."
Roberts added that he was still unsure about his future at the club, but insisted that as long as he continued to play well he was content.
"I think everyone is happier when they are playing. I'm sure if you spoke to anyone here they would all say the same,” he added.
"As long as I'm playing, I'm on top of the world.
"As for where my future lies, I don't know. To a certain extent that situation is out of my hands.
"All I can do is try to show people what I can do, and hopefully I showed them a bit more (at the weekend).
"It's just nice for me that I'm getting an opportunity now and whatever has happened in the past, is in the past for me.
"If the manager continues to give me an opportunity, then I will always try my best for the team, like I've always done."
