Jan: It's all about pressure
by Brian Etherson, 24 March 2008
Celtic striker Jan vennegoor of Hesselink believes the win against Gretna on Sunday sets them up perfectly for and Old firm double header that is looming on the horizon.
Despite Celtic struggling to get going against the SPL strugglers, the Dutch hit-man reckons it is all about who can handle the mounting pressure as the league enters the final phase, and the only prize available to Celtic is one he is desperate to take.
“Yeah, a lot of big games and a lot of tension on the games,” Vennegoor of Hesselink told Setanta Sports. “We have a very busy schedule also and I’m looking forward to it.
“These are the games and this is the season and the months where the prizes are given away and I want to be part of it and win the championship.
“That’s what we have to do, just win all the games, that is what we are trying to do and that is what we did today.”
The Dutch star scored the second of three for Gordon Strachan’s side, and he admits that the partnership between himself and Scott McDonald is good in terms of goals for the club, but conceded it is irrelevant, just as long as they take all three points.
Vennegoor of Hesselink said: “There are some goals between us and we just try to work hard, score goals and be important for the team.
“If you score the goals that’s nice, but if someone else does that is just as good for the team.”
