Madejski confident in Coppell

Madejski confident in Coppell

Reading chairman John Madejski has said Royals manager Steve Coppell’s future was never in doubt, even when the club were teetering on the top of the relegation zone.

Coppell’s side lost a club record eight consecutive league games, a streak which sent them plummeting towards the nether regions of the table.

However, the beginning of March heralded something of a new spring dawn for Coppell and his players as they have won three of their four games so far this month, and Madejski has said he always had faith in the 52-year-old’s capabilities to turn things around.

“Nobody ever questioned his ability,” said Madejski.

The Reading chairman has always been vociferous in his support for Coppell, and strengthened his stance by saying that to contemplate any change would be ‘complete lunacy’.

Should Gold and Sullivan leave Birmingham?

Setanta readers' comment of the day

“United deserved the title. why can't everyone see that? Why are there all the recriminations from TV and people on here? It was a clear penalty and the rio incident one wasn't. Yes, scholes could've been sent off but how many times do you see the ref show leniency in such situations? Chelsea couldn't even win anyway so any argument is completely moot.”
