Edman worry for Euro chances
by Joseph Caron Dawe, 25 March 2008
Wigan left back Erik Edman has signalled his concern at the knee injury he picked up against Blackburn at the weekend, and the defender’s problem looks set to hinder his Euro 2008 hopes.
The Sweden international was optimistic of making Lars Lagerback’s squad for the summer tournament in Austria and Switzerland, but the 29-year-old fears the knock he sustained against Rovers is cruciate ligament damage.
"Right now it hurts very much," Edman told Swedish paper Goteborgs-Posten.
"It's really tough, especially since I felt I had come back into shape after my last injury.
"Even if it's hard to tell before the examination, it feels like it is some problem with the cruciate ligament."
The news is a cruel blow for the former Tottenham player, who joined The Latics from Rennes in the hope of establishing himself as a contender for the Sweden side ahead of the summer.
