Drogba is top striker - Lampard
by Richard Field, 25 March 2008
Frank Lampard believes the form Chelsea team-mate Didier Drogba showed against Arsenal in the crucial Premier League win on Sunday puts the Ivorian a notch above the rest of the world’s best strikers.
Drogba struck both goals for the West London club at Stamford Bridge to preserve their title ambitions after Bacary Sagna had drawn first blood for the visitors.
“When he [Drogba] plays like that he is the best in the world, I don’t care who else you want to put against him, he is the best for me, and he showed that against two top-class centre-halves,” Lampard told the club’s website.
If Chelsea had failed to win against Arsene Wenger’s side then the critics would more than likely have been attacking Avram Grant, and Lampard was delighted with the comeback on Sunday.
He added: “We were 1-0 down, we would have been virtually out of the race and we knew that, that’s why we dug in so hard and pulled it around, the spirit we showed was fantastic.”
With seven matches remaining, second-placed Chelsea need to overhaul a five-point deficit to halt Manchester United's march to a second consecutive title.
“Manchester United have still got to come here,” added Lampard.
“We have to win all our games, and if we can beat Manchester United and they drop points then we have a chance, it’s as simple as that.”
