Wenger: I'm after Ben Arfa

Arsene Wenger has uncharacteristically admitted his interest in a potential summer transfer target – Lyon winger Hatem Ben Arfa.

Having seen his side suffer a huge setback in the title challenge when losing 2-1 to Chelsea on Sunday, it appears Wenger is already looking ahead to next season with a view to strengthening his squad.

France international Ben Arfa is believed to be frustrated with his current first team chances at Stade Gerland and has also fallen out with the great hope of French football Karim Benzema.

Barcelona and Manchester United have previously been linked with the three-time French champion but North London may yet emerge as a potential destination should Lyon look to sell the 21-year-old.

Wenger has conceded The Gunners would be keen to bring Ben Arfa to Emirates Stadium if he came on the market.

"If he is for sale, then we are very interested," Wenger told Telefoot.

"He is a great player and Arsenal is a potential destination for any great player."

First they (THE SUN) confirm he is comin and wikipedia say he is an Arsenal player.TWO WEEKS LATER... Besides THAT goal against argentina. Look at him at newcastle now, he can't pass, he can't shoot, he can't dribble pass anyone these days.... He's great and I think he'll be a success ...if we get him. He's very talented so I really hope we get him. Along with a defender I also think we should buy Michael Owen. “I'm glad he's staying!! For a few weeks there I thought we were going to get ripped off TWICE in 1 summer! Robbie Keane is a very good footballer but worth £20million i'm not sure. £18million for Barry and £12million for Alonso!! Jesus is it just me or does EVERYONE else see that as terrible business?? Rafa has a plan that he obviously thought Barry would be the perfect cog in his midfield machine but maybe next year, maybe not. I'm not sure about Riera but i'm willing to give him a chance like he deserves!! I hope we win the league this year but Chelsea are looking very strong.”
