Vieira re-lives Arsenal glories ahead of Derby

Former Arsenal star Patrick Vieira is hoping he can win the scudetto against bitter rivals Milan on Sunday and he remembers his glory days with The Gunners.

The Derby della Madonina is back on Sunday and the Nerazzurri could conquer their third successive scudetto in Milan’s back yard. Vieira knows what it feels like to win the league against bitter rivals and he remembers doing so in the Premier League with Arsenal.

“With Arsenal I won the Premier League against Tottenham at their ground and against Manchester United at Old Trafford, now I want to do the same against Milan with Inter in the San Siro,” Vieira told La Gazzetta Dello Sport.

“It’s going to be a great game and the atmosphere will be amazing, we’ll be playing for the scudetto and they are fighting for a place in the Champions League.

“Hopefully we can play well enough to beat them.” Vieira was also full of praise for Arsenal’s Abou Diaby and he believes the Gunner could be his successor.

“My successor? I really like Diaby from Arsenal, he has great qualities even though they play him on the left. However he is a very strong central player.”

Setanta readers' comment of the day

“United deserved the title. why can't everyone see that? Why are there all the recriminations from TV and people on here? It was a clear penalty and the rio incident one wasn't. Yes, scholes could've been sent off but how many times do you see the ref show leniency in such situations? Chelsea couldn't even win anyway so any argument is completely moot.”
