Rafa: Barry talks on hold
by Ben Blackmore, 08 May 2008
Rafa Benitez has shed a rather different light to Martin O’Neill on the Gareth Barry transfer situation, revealing the two managers have agreed to re-open discussions at the end of the season.
O’Neill has cut an angry figure when quizzed about his skipper so far, insisting he has no intention of selling to Liverpool.
The Aston Villa boss accused The Reds of heavily undervaluing Barry, after Liverpool made a player-plus-cash offer believed to be around £10 million.
Benitez remains optimistic on the matter though, revealing he has explained his plans to O’Neill.
The Spaniard intends to get the last game of the season out of the way this weekend and then re-open talks with the Midlands club.
"I have spoken to Martin O'Neill, he knows my ideas,” said Benitez.
"But we agreed to wait until the end of the season for any more discussions."
