No truth in Zidane-QPR link
by Laurent Picard, 09 May 2008

Zidane: Not going to QPR.

Zinedine Zidane has not been approached to become QPR’s new manager, according to co-owner Bernie Ecclestone.

Italian coach Luigi de Canio parted company with the London club on Thursday, having helped them stay in The Championship, and speculation about the name of his successor have begun.

France legend Zidane, currently working as an ambassador for Danone, has been linked with a move to Loftus Park to make his debut as a head coach, but Ecclestone has dismissed the reports.

“I can say 100 per cent categorically 'no' to stories that we have spoken to Zidane,” he told The Times.

“We have known for six months that the coach would be leaving and we have to draw up the shortlist, but Zidane’s name is not on it.”

Setanta readers' comment of the day

“United deserved the title. why can't everyone see that? Why are there all the recriminations from TV and people on here? It was a clear penalty and the rio incident one wasn't. Yes, scholes could've been sent off but how many times do you see the ref show leniency in such situations? Chelsea couldn't even win anyway so any argument is completely moot.”
