Adebayor keen to stay a Gunner

Emmanuel Adebayor has categorically denied suggestions that he is looking to leave Arsenal this summer.

Arsene Wenger will have breathed a sigh of relief at the news, having plainly stated his desire to see his squad stick together and prove themselves to be ‘winners’ next season.

Despite Wenger’s optimism, Mathieu Flamini could not resist the lure of Milan and rumours persist that Alexander Hleb will head for the other giants in the Italian fashion capital.

However, Adebayor, who has enjoyed a prolific campaign in front of goal, insists he has no intention of following any of his his team-mates out of Emirates Stadium despite reports in Friday’s newspapers that claim he will leave unless his wages are doubled.

“I am very happy here, reports which suggest I have threatened to quit are rubbish,” he told The Gunners’ official website. “I love the club and the fans.

“We have a great set of players here with a fantastic team spirit. We have had a good season but next season we want to go one better by winning a trophy.”

Setanta readers' comment of the day

“It's clear Ronaldo is still unhappy. This is postponing the inevitable. Ronaldo will be a Real Madrid player in 2009. Fair play to Fergie because he is stubborn but there's only one winner in the end here.”
