Keane hails 'untouchable' duo
by Joseph Caron Dawe, 09 May 2008
Roy Keane was both unforgiving and unequivocal in his appraisal of some of his players’ performances at Bolton last weekend, but the Irishman is just as forthcoming with his praise as well.
Having begun his summer cull with the transfer listing of four players on Thursday, Keane expressed his dismay at the display of commitment from a number of other stars too.
However, two players he is totally enamoured with are striker Kenwyne Jones and goalkeeper Craig Gordon, both of whom he has dubbed as ‘untouchables’.
Jones’ form for The Black Cats has reportedly attracted interest from a number of clubs and after the former Southampton forward told Setanta Sports News he was happy at the club on Thursday, his boss has moved quickly to notify any potential suitors that he is unavailable.
“He is not for sale,” said Keane simply.
“There are certain players at certain clubs who are untouchable and both him and our goalkeeper won’t be going anywhere.
“Kenwyne and Gordon are no-goers, even if we got crazy money for them.”
Keane has so much faith in Scotland international Gordon’s ability that he believes the 25-year-old will go on to become one of the best in his position.
“I have no doubt that, in the next couple of years, he will become one of the best keepers in the world, if not the best,” added Keane.
