Hearts keen on Gow
by Brian Etherson, 09 May 2008
Alan Gow is attracting interest from Hearts as they start the rebuilding process for next season, and it is understood that the former Falkirk player has been recommended to Vladimir Romanov.
Gow has two years left on his deal at Ibrox and Rangers would ask some sort of transfer fee, however, as Gow’s appearances for Rangers have been very limited, this may not be a huge stumbling block for the Tynecastle club to overcome.
The out of favour striker would give Hearts another option up front and may possibly consider a loan move to resurrect his ailing career, which has been limited to a couple of cup appearances earlier in the campaign.
After the departures of Andrius Velicka, Michal Pospisil and Ricardas Beniusis and the imminent transfer of Roman Bednar to West Brom, Hearts are desperate to recruit strikers and Gow is very much on their radar.
Meanwhile, Stevie Frail has revealed that Bruno Aguiar will not make his first team comeback this season after all.
Aguiar was injured in a training ground collision with fellow midfielder Julien Brellier and as the Portuguese was nearing full fitness, he has suffered a slight setback which rules him out for the last couple of games. Frail also revealed that 19-year-old Ryan McGowan will feature in the first team at some point over the weekend.
“Ryan McGowan is in with a chance because his knee injury healed quickly,” Frail told the Evening News. “He played well in the East of Scotland Shield match against Hibs on Wednesday night. But Bruno won't make it.
“He was hoping to play some part before the end of the season but he's got another slight niggle relating to the injury he had and we'll leave him for now.
“He's fine psychologically because he's had a game, albeit only in the reserves. It's just a case of him playing football again because he might not have managed that at all.
“With Ryan, we have two games this weekend with Kilmarnock in the league and then Robbie's testimonial. If he doesn't feature in one he'll feature in the other. He is one of the ones we are looking to push on and get involved with the first-team squad on a regular basis next season.”
