Young-pyo considering Spurs future
by Joseph Caron Dawe, 14 May 2008
Tottenham full back Lee Young-pyo has for a long time been harangued by sections of the club’s fans, and now the South Korean has admitted that he could be set to leave the club.
The former PSV Eindhoven defender – signed from the current Dutch champions in the summer of 2005 – has become something of a fringe figure since the turn of the New Year.
It would now appear that Young-pyo sees no future at the North London club for himself, and is preparing for an exit.
“This is a point in my life that I need a change and I must make the best decision for myself,” he said in The Korea Times.
“The most important thing for me is to be happy and have fun playing on the pitch. It doesn't matter where I play.”
Meanwhile, Spurs youngster Chris Gunter is in a totally different frame of mind as he feels he has bright future at the club.
The 18-year-old signed from Cardiff in January for a fee of around £3.5 million and made his debut against Reading in The FA Cup before going on to face Manchester United.
Gunter believes he can go on to achieve great success with The Lilywhites in time.
“Things have gone very well for me and I can't wait for more chances for Wales and Spurs,” he said.
“I expect to play in finals with Spurs. I was cup-tied this season when we won the Carling Cup, but there will be many other chances for me. I am convinced of that.
“I want to be involved in Champions League finals, FA Cup finals, the lot. My time will come.
“I am training with top players every day. I am bound to improve and that is my aim. I know I am doing okay, that is the main thing because I am getting constant top coaching.
“It has been nice to have settled in there as I have, and I am looking forward to getting a good pre-season in and having a real crack at it next season.”
