Gemmell praise for Burns
by Alex Livie, 15 May 2008
Tommy Gemmell has paid tribute to Tommy Burns, describing the Celtic legend as a ‘tremendous player and tremendous person’.
Burns lost his battle with cancer this week and he will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all those connected with the Parkhead club.
The former Scotland international gave great service to Celtic as a player, manager and coach and Gemmell had only words of praise for a man who played a key part in The Bhoys landing the Double in 1988.
“He was a tremendous person, a great man, but also a great player,” Gemmell said on Setanta Sports News.
“He had a lethal left foot and was a great servant to Celtic Football Club. It is sad to hear of his loss.
“He did a great job for Celtic as a manager, a coach and as a player and as a person.
“Everyone’s thoughts go out to Rosemary (Burns’ wife) and his family.”
