Vieira urges Gunners to break cap
by Laurent Picard, 16 May 2008

Vieira: Gives views on Arsenal.

Former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira reckons the loss of Mathieu Flamini is a big blow for his old club.

France international Vieira remains a Gunners fan despite being at Inter, and he has labelled Flamini’s move to Milan ‘a massive loss’.

The experienced player has asked Arsene Wenger to offer better wages to his key players if he wants them to remain at Emirates Stadium.

“Flamini’s departure is a massive loss,” Vieira told L’Equipe.

“They should offer good contracts if Arsenal want to keep their best players.”

Vieira would also like Wenger to keep William Gallas as captain next season, as he believes that losing the armband would be awful for the centre back.

“Psychologically, it could be difficult for William.

“He could think he has lost his coach’s trust and his team-mates'.”

“It's clear Ronaldo is still unhappy. This is postponing the inevitable. Ronaldo will be a Real Madrid player in 2009. Fair play to Fergie because he is stubborn but there's only one winner in the end here.”
