Hleb: Moving on?

Alexander Hleb’s agent claims Arsenal have agreed to let his client leave North London this summer.

Hleb has grown frustrated with life in the English capital and is looking to move on, despite having had a superb season for Arsenal.

The Belarus star is Arsenal’s creative spark in midfield and his departure would leave Arsene Wenger with a huge void to fill, but his agent claims The Gunners have agreed to let him head for pastures new.

“I can officially confirm that a short time ago Alexander decided that he will leave Arsenal and join another club,” Hleb’s representative Nikolai Shpilevski told The Sun.

"Of course, Arsenal and Arsene wanted him to stay but they have accepted the player's choice."

Hleb has just over two years to run on his commitment, but he will not rob Arsenal of a transfer fee by buying out his contract.

"We are not using article 17 of the Fifa rule,” added Shpilevski. "I can't tell you anything about where he will be playing yet.

"Talks are underway, and I don't have the right to make them public.

"I think that the issue of his new club will be clarified in the next few days."

Adams - 26 May 2008 08:47: I think the players are getting worried becuase Wenger dont want to spend and buy big players to help them win something. I dont reallly know if wenger has a share in the club thats why he dosnt want to spend. players will definately leave they dont see any sign of winning anything for luck of players to help. All the players Im hearing he want to sign are all not good enough to win anything Eto, villa and some top players are available but winger will sit down till the other top clubs buy them and he will be relying on kids, I think his idea is rubish to be frank. somebody at the top should remind him that Arsenal won trophys with big names like Edu, henry, Peres, D. beckham, seaman etc not what he has now. if he decides not to buy big names then I think we should forget thinking about winning anything again as none of the young ones will wait for him; Report this to a moderator

AJR - 24 May 2008 18:46: I think Wenger is doing the right thing here, even if they said no to Hleb leaving he would buy out his contract, and we would lose out on a possible £16m transfer, at least this way we get the money try and sign a couple of players equal to Hleb's ability, plus we want a winger that F#*~^N shoots for once, the amount of times this year Hleb has got into a great scoring oppurtunity, but instead of shooting he turns back and passes, it drives me insane.; Report this to a moderator

kenechi - 24 May 2008 10:42: He can leave with his mastubatory dribbles that leads to nothing. Good dribbler, but no threat. This is one player I was hoping will leave so that may be our style of passing other teams to death might change. A more direct playmaker is what we need, someone that will score more than the paltry 3 goals scored by Hleb this season. I hope AW will not wait too long to sign a replacement to enable the player settle before season starts, and to reassure the rest of the players that we mean business.; Report this to a moderator

“I'm glad he's staying!! For a few weeks there I thought we were going to get ripped off TWICE in 1 summer! Robbie Keane is a very good footballer but worth £20million i'm not sure. £18million for Barry and £12million for Alonso!! Jesus is it just me or does EVERYONE else see that as terrible business?? Rafa has a plan that he obviously thought Barry would be the perfect cog in his midfield machine but maybe next year, maybe not. I'm not sure about Riera but i'm willing to give him a chance like he deserves!! I hope we win the league this year but Chelsea are looking very strong.”
