City fail in Gomaa bid
by Toby Davis, 25 June 2008
Bristol City have been thwarted in their efforts to sign Egyptian Wael Gomaa after the player revealed his club Al Ahly are not prepared to sell.
City are reported to have offered £150,000 for the player as well as making a bid for team-mate Emad Meteb.
Gomaa confirmed he had spoken to Ahly about City’s interest, but was told the deal was unlikely to go through.
"My agent informed me that Bristol are interested, but when I talked with Ahly officials the response was negative," Gomaa told website FilGoal.com.
"The club needs me here and, to be honest, the transfer fee from the English club is lower than expected."
City’s move for team-mate Meteb is also under threat with reports suggesting boss Gary Johnson could pull the plug on the deal after losing patience with Ahly.
