More surgery for Mick Fitz
by Johnny Ward, 16 May 2008
Mick Fitzgerald is to endure a third session of surgery in a bid to get back fit for race riding.
The veteran Irishman is to have an operation on the cruciate ligament on his right knee, having been advised by a specialist to do so.
The specialist, at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, suggested that his knee may be unable to deal with excessive movement if it were not operated on.
"He explained, for instance, I could be in trouble if a horse jinked sideways suddenly," the jockey told the Racing Post.
"He therefore recommended surgery and hopefully that will happen as soon as possible - perhaps in the next fortnight."
Fitzgerald added that he expected to be able to return to race riding four months after the surgery.
