Smullen's caution about Casual Conquest
by Johnny Ward, 16 May 2008
Pat Smullen is very excited about Casual Conquest this season, without advancing any notions about where the horse may or should run.
Dermot Weld's son of Hernando would be favourite for the Vodafone Derby if he is supplemented, but it is considered more likely that he will run in The Curragh equivalent.
Casual Conquest won easily in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial last Sunday, but Smullen has sounded some caution regarding the form of the race.
"It's hard not to be taken by his performance at Leopardstown," the Offaly native told At The Races.
"What he beat remains to be seen but there's no doubt he's a high-class colt and a very exciting horse for the rest of the year.
"You'd be hoping that he's of the highest calibre."
Regarding what race the colt goes for, he merely said: "It's up to the boss to decide."
